Favourite Venues

The Vinegrove, Mudgee

Mudgee has quietly become one of my favourite places to play weddings. It has a pace to it that's different from Sydney or even the Southern Highlands—unhurried, warm, genuinely celebratory. And The Vinegrove captures that spirit better than almost anywhere else in the region.

Set among the vines with views that stretch across the valley, it's the kind of venue that makes you stop and take a breath when you arrive. By the time you've done that, you already understand why couples choose it. There's a beauty here that doesn't need any help—the music just needs to match it.

Ceremony among the vines

Ceremonies at The Vinegrove are something special. The vineyard setting frames everything naturally—rows of vines extending out on either side, open sky above, and that particular quality of Mudgee light that turns golden long before sunset. Playing acoustic guitar in that environment is one of those experiences that reminds you why live music at weddings matters. The sound sits cleanly in the open air, the guests are focused and present, and the whole thing feels exactly as significant as it should.

I've found that couples who choose The Vinegrove tend to have a clear sense of what they want from the ceremony—something heartfelt and unshowy, where the music supports the moment rather than competes with it. That's exactly the kind of brief I work best with.

Cocktail hour and the reception

The cocktail hour at The Vinegrove is long and relaxed in the best possible way. Guests spread out, wine flows, and the live acoustic set fills the space beautifully—warm background music that invites conversation without interrupting it. By the time everyone moves inside for the reception, the mood is exactly right: relaxed, happy, and ready for what comes next.

The reception space itself works really well for a DJ set. The room has good energy, and Vinegrove crowds tend to commit to the dancefloor early and stay there. I've had some of my best late-night sets here—the kind where you look up and realise it's well past midnight and nobody's left.

What to expect on the day

The team at The Vinegrove run a well-organised event. Communication in the lead-up is reliable, the schedule on the day flows smoothly, and there's a real attention to detail that makes everything feel considered. As a musician and DJ, that kind of venue-side professionalism makes an enormous difference—it means I can focus entirely on the music rather than logistics.

If you're planning a wedding at The Vinegrove and want someone to cover the ceremony, cocktail hour, MC, and DJ set, get in touch. I'd love to be involved. You can also check out the weddings page for more on what I offer, or browse other venue guides on the blog.

"We had the absolute pleasure of having Mitch play at our wedding at The Vinegrove, and we couldn't have asked for a better musician and DJ. His acoustic guitar set was simply beautiful, creating the perfect atmosphere for our special moments and guests. Everyone only had amazing things to say—he is incredibly talented, a genuine force to be reckoned with.

When it was time to hit the dancefloor, his DJing was so good and he had everyone up and dancing all night. Mitch nailed the timing for all our key songs and was such a kind, fun, and lovely presence throughout the day. We're so grateful to have had him as part of our wedding and can't recommend him highly enough!"
